top 7 georgian restaurants

Kavkazskaya Plennitsa

This is a splurge option where you will never regret a single kopek spent on food or drink. Every item on the menu is delicious so do not be afraid to order anything. Vegetarians should plan a visit for cold and hot starters, which are just as filling as shashlyk. We would take our out-of-town guests here.

Sam Prishyol

You may have noticed that there are actually several venues with this name around Moscow, most of which insist on not belonging to the same chain. The Shabolovskaya branch is a great budget option with nice layout and friendly service. Menu winners are the khachapuri po-migrelski and traditional kuchmachi.

Suliko

This restaurant on Polyanka, much praised by ambassadors and diplomats, is rather quiet these days. We hardly hear of them introducing new menu items or about new special offers from the chef. This is not because the restaurant is going down; they’ve just decided to stick to a formula that has proven quite successful.

Genatsvale

A bunch of celebrities including Will Smith have been known to cap off a Moscow visit with a grand feast of Georgian delights at this popular venue. Here at element we think that food is rather average and a little bit overpriced. However, we’ll allow that a great central location next to Kropotkinskaya metro station compensates for it all.

Tiflis

If you failed to get a table at Genatsvale, then walk a few hundred meters in the direction of Park Kultury metro station and you will find this massive venue off Ostozhenka Ulitsa. Inside the feel is a bit gloomy but the summer patio on the balcony provides a great backdrop for the delicious, generously-portioned dishes.

Kolhi

One of the latest additions to a rapidly growing family of Georgian eateries features everything that any traditional Caucasian establishment should have: a woody interior, a good wine selection and a healthy shashlik-khachapuri-lobio mixture on the menu. The only differences are the prices, which fall a bit below average.

Knyaz Bagration

Knyaz occupies the entire mansion lost in the Plyushchikha Street area and is popular among local government workers. If all the noise coming from their big parties does not bother you and you are in a mood to splurge, it is definitely worth a try. Pay special attention to the extensive wine collection. • PP
